Audi Electronics Research Lab, Qualcomm Incorporated and Peiker have jointly announced a new wireless charging technology that will be made available to both existing and future Audi customers. Such systems aren’t anything new in the electronics industry, but this is the first such application by an automaker that we’re aware of.

According to the German automaker, its wireless charging technology works with existing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals and indicates that all is working properly on both the digital display of the phone as well as the car’s audio system. We’ve yet to actually see the technology in use in an Audi vehicle, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for it on the SEMA show floor later today.

Other technologies featured by Audi at SEMA include illuminated floor mats, an iPhone car monitor, and an iPod satellite adapter. Click past the break for the complete press release.
